God's Plan of Salvation

The bottom line is this: we need saving and we can't save ourselves. Good works can't possibly make up for the damage that sin has done to our relationship with God. Only God can save us. Salvation is a gift from God, poured out freely from God's grace. It is available to everyone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The Bible shows us that there is only one way to Heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)  We must have a relationship with Christ. The fact that you're reading this now may be an indication that you are seeking something that is missing in your life. You may just not know how or where to find it. You've come to the right place. All you need to do is to trust Jesus today. The recipe is simple, yet we all need a community of faith support in our life-long journey.

1. Admit that you are imperfect. Don't worry, though, you've got a lot of company. We've all sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). God has made for us a way out--a way to be dead to sin--and the first step is admitting you've fallen short of God's image of perfect creation.

2. Be willing to repent of your sin. Repentance doesn't just mean saying you're sorry. It means turning 180 degrees from our self-centered ways and embracing a new, Christ-Centric way of life. That doesn't mean you won't ever sin again. It simply means that you will make every effort to live for God, and that you will accept God's help in making that happen.

3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, that He was buried, and that He rose from the dead. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)  It's the payment we've earned. But the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ. He bore our punishment so that we could stand blameless in front of God. That's how much God loves You!

4. Through prayer, invite Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of your life. It doesn't have to be fancy or wordy--heartfelt and straightforward will do. Perhaps something like this:  God, I realize that I am a sinner who needs forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sin. I want to turn from sin. Jesus, come into my heart and be Lord of my life.  Amen.

If you've prayed a prayer like that, welcome to the family of God!  Eternal life starts today. There are a few other things that would be good for you to do right now. First, talk to God every day. God loves to hear from us and draws near to us through prayer. Second, find a faith community where loving God and loving others is at the center of everything they say and do. Third, read your Bible and study with others who can help you understand it is a guiding message of love and hope, not to be used to justify division and hate. Lastly, share your story of faith. Everyone has one, no matter where you are in your walk. Yes, your story could make all the difference in how someone else meets Christ.
